Emu Oil & Coffee Grounds Body Scrub DIY Skincare Recipe

This week we’re kicking off our new series of DIY Emu Oil skincare and haircare recipes with a great all-natural body scrub. This DIY series will feature simple recipes based on the ways we personally use emu oil alongside other natural ingredients for everyday skincare and beauty.

Exfoliate and moisturise your skin

This simple body scrub combines used coffee grounds and brown sugar to gently exfoliate the skin, helping to remove dry, flaky surface skin and leave your skin feeling smoother and softer. The emu oil then helps replenish moisture and condition the skin, leaving it feeling nourished rather than dry or stripped after exfoliation.

Why emu oil?

Emu oil is a particularly useful ingredient in a body scrub because it is rich in fatty acids and has excellent skin-conditioning and moisturising properties. Its lightweight texture allows it to spread easily over the skin, helping to soften and moisturise while you massage the scrub in.

The result is a simple two-in-one treatment - exfoliate, then moisturise - without needing to apply a separate body moisturiser afterwards.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup used coffee grounds, cooled

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 3 tablespoons Pure Emu Oil

  • 2-3 drops of your favourite essential oil, optional (we used Lavender oil)

How to make and use it

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix thoroughly until the mixture has the consistency of wet sand.
  2. In the shower, apply to damp skin and gently massage in circular motions, paying particular attention to areas that tend to become dry or rough. Rinse thoroughly and pat your skin dry.

There’s no need to apply a separate moisturiser afterwards - the emu oil in the scrub helps leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturised.

A few tips

  • Because this recipe contains fresh, used coffee grounds, store any leftover scrub in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within one week.
  • Always keep water out of the container to help prevent contamination.
  • If you have sensitive skin, try a small patch first and avoid using the scrub on broken, irritated or freshly shaved skin.
